Describe what you want to work towards
Think about the kind of home, routine and community that would suit you. Your priorities might include living closer to people you know, having more privacy, starting a course or feeling confident managing your own space.
There is no need to solve everything in one session. Pick a first step that feels manageable and discuss what support would make it easier.
Build confidence in everyday tasks
- Plan a weekly routine around appointments, shopping and rest.
- Practise keeping track of regular income and spending.
- Make a list of who to contact about repairs, appointments and important letters.
- Try preparing meals, organising household tasks and keeping documents somewhere you can find them.
- Explore activities, learning and work opportunities that interest you.
Use the session worksheets to break a task into smaller steps. Ask your worker which activities fit your own support plan.
Prepare questions about your next home
Aspect's existing support programme describes help with registering with letting agencies and applying to housing associations or councils. Discuss the options relevant to your circumstances and check each provider's current application process.
- What information will an application require?
- What costs would you need to plan for?
- Which locations and access arrangements would work for you?
- What practical help would you need around a move?
- Who could you contact if you need support after moving?
These prompts help you prepare a conversation. They are not a housing offer or a promise of a particular move-on date.
Look back before deciding the next step
Review what you tried, what worked and what you want to do differently. You can change a goal if it no longer fits. Agree who will do what next and when you will check in again.
